Dear Colleagues,

Summer is coming to a close, and I hope you have found time for some vacation and have returned reinvigorated, ready for the full exploitation of the restarting of the experimental programme. The summer students who enliven the laboratory at this time of year will now be leaving us, but we have an article on their stay in this edition of the newsletter. 

There are also features on the upgrade of TOTEM, an early result from LHCb using Run 2 data, and a review of recent Heavy Ion results.  In addition, we also highlight some of the ongoing activity beyond the LHC program: from the BASE experiment at the AD, COMPASS, nTOF and ISOLDE.
