An amazing year for the DT group

2016 has been a great year for the DT group, tjhat provides centralized resources and expertise in terms of personnel and facilities, for the development of future detector technologies and for contributing to detector construction projects.

The workshop “Charting the Unknown: Interpreting LHC data from the energy frontier” focused on the interpretation of the new data from Run 2 in the context of theories beyond the Standard Model.

The NA61/SHINE experiment approved in 2008 allows for precise measurements of properties of particles, produced in collisions of hadrons and atomic nuclei.

LHCb searches for CP violation

LΗCb has been performing many accurate measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in processes involving beauty- and charm-hadron decays to determine whether they are consistent with the CKM mechanism or whether new physics should be invoked to explain them.

On 28th September, the ISOLDE Collaboration celebrated the completion of stage 1 of the HIE-ISOLDE project, which opens up new physics opportunities for radioactive ion beam experiments at CERN.

The period of the year when ALICE plays the leading role at LHC has finally arrived: after smashing protons for months, the LHC accelerated lead ions on November 7th and continued until the winter shut-down.
