BabyMIND records first muon tracks

by Etam Noah

The Baby MIND muon spectrometer has started recording its first muon tracks from neutrino interactions at J-PARC since 10th March

In a paper published this week in Nature, the ALPHA collaboration reports the most precise direct measurement of antimatter ever made

In a recent publication, the ATLAS experiment measured the width of the top quark in a model-independent way and searched for contributions from new physics.

AMS looks at Cosmic Galactic Rays

by Panos Charito

Recent results from the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) inaugurate a new era in Cosmic ray (CR) physics driven by high precision.

ALICE upgrade plans

by Panos Charitos

The ALICE experiment prepares upgrades of several subsystems and the online–offline system for data acquisition and processing during the Long Shutdown 2 of the LHC to cope with the new conditions.

HL-LHC and future colliders call for more sophisticated experimental technologies. CERN has launched a process to define its R&D programme on new experimental technologies from 2020 onwards.

The exploitation of the LHC data is continuing successfully, with a wealth of new results presented at the Moriond 2018 conference,

CernVM turns ten!

by Jakob Blomer, Gerardo Ganis

The 3rd CernVM users workshop brought together users, developers and industry speakers to discuss the current status of the CernVM ecosystem and future directions

A new database of irradiation facilities

by Panos Charitos

The high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC and future accelerator projects where much higher radiation levels are expected call for new and more sophisticated irradiation facilities.

Report from CLIC Week 2018

by Rickard Ström, Aidan Robson

The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) workshop attracted more than 220 participants to CERN to prepare for the update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics.

Interview with Pascal Lamy

by Panos Charitos

Interview with Pascal Lamy, Chairman of the High Level Group on maximising the impact of European research and innovation programmes, on the future of research and innovation in Europe.

Theory goes forward to meet the FCC-ee strong experimental demands.

by Janusz Gluza & Alain Blondel

Bringing precision of theoretical calculations to the required level of the FCC-ee experiments can allow a broad exploration of  new frontiers in physics.

Jürgen Schukraft has been recently awarded the Niels Bohr Institute’s Honorary Medal for his outstanding career in heavy-ion physics and his role as spokesperson of the ALICE experiment.

Weighing up the LHC’s future

by Michelangelo Mangano

A series of meetings is scheduled throughout 2018 to review and further refine our understanding of the physics potential of the HL-LHC, and to begin a systematic study of physics at the HE-LHC.

Ferdinand Hahn 1959-2018

by his colleagues and friends.

It was with great sadness that we learned that Ferdi Hahn passed away on 4 March 2018:  an enthusiastic and highly skilled colleague, and an openhearted friend.
