Winners of the "2013 CERN OpenDays" photo contest
CERN’s Photo Club, worked closely with the organizing team of the CERN Open Days, to organize a photo competition with “CERN Open Days 2013” as the main theme. The competition lasted from 28 of September to 11 of October and the winners were announced earlier last week.
The contest was open to the thousands of visitors who attended the Open Days as well as to the volunteers who worked hard, contributing to their success. Visiting the various sites around CERN, discussing with scientists and exploring the laboratories of the different groups, triggered participant’s imagination. However, they had to limit themselves to five photographs that better illustrated the theme of the contest. Photographs should have been taken during the CERN Open Days, on the 28 or 29 of September.
The jury committee, chaired by Arie Van Praag (Master FIAP) and composed of two members of the CERNPhotoClub and Hermann Schmickler and Virginie Blondeau from the OpenDays team, selected ten winning photos that will be exhibited at the CERN Photo Club’s annual exhibition while a prize will be awarded for each winning entry. In particular the first winning prize, a Canon EOS1100D camera was awarded to Vedran Arnautovic for his picture taken at CMS P5. The second prize (a Nikon Coolpix P520 Noir) was for a picture of the ALICE detector taken by Dario Buttazzo and finally the third prize (a Panasonic TZ-41) was given to Richj Vernon for a genuine portrait of one of the visitors. In addition, 7 Sac Photo Lowerpro Slingshots will be given to the rest of the winners.
The organizers are planning a special viewing of the exhibition, on the 4 of November 2013. All participants are invited to attend, discuss with other photographers and share their feeling about their work.
Congratulations to all the winners and we are looking forward to see their photos printed and exhibited at CERN.
