Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is today the reference choice for the thermal management of most of the future vertex and tracking detectors requiring low temperature operation at LHC.
In August 2011, Thomas Schneider and Claude David both members of the PH-DT group started working on the coating of Mylar foils with a reflective layer of Al/MgF2. In order to get better reflectivity in the UV range one has to avoid the oxidation of the aluminium layer. The coating of Mylar foils is a very efficient way to deal with this problem.
The NA62 experiment is focusing on precision tests of the Standard Model by studying the rare decays of charged kaons. RICH will be used to identify daughter pions from muons and electrons in an efficient and non-destructive way.
